Ode with Anthropic

  • $1.5B committed
  • ~150 people
  • launched Jul 15, 2026
  • Private

Ode with Anthropic embeds small forward-deployed engineering teams in mid-sized companies to build Claude-powered production systems. Anthropic, Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman and Goldman Sachs led $1.5B in commitments in May 2026; built on the acquired Fractional AI, it launched as Ode in July 2026.

Their role in FDE

  • The play
  • A Claude channel. Anthropic's S-1 names Ode among the channels that carry Claude to customers, alongside Accenture, Deloitte, KPMG and PwC. Its Claude-first pods embed in mid-sized companies, starting with the portfolio companies its private-equity backers will send it.
  • The economics
  • Pitched against the Big Three. Fortune wrote that Ode offers private-equity sponsors an alternative to hiring Big Three consultants 'at what is likely to be a fraction of the cost,' and describes a built-in client pipeline across hundreds of portfolio companies.
  • The edge
  • Pods of two to five engineers and a PM, and over half the team are former founders. Ode calls itself 'more Palantir than McKinsey'; a Blackstone executive called the team 'special forces'.
  • The catch
  • Hiring. TechCrunch asked whether Ode would 'be able to train enough people to meet demand.' Engineering postings ask for 8+ years of experience, and the talent team runs about 750 interviews a month for a firm of about 150 people.

Key findings

  • Anthropic, Blackstone and Hellman & Friedman are each putting in $300M and Goldman Sachs $150M, SiliconANGLE reports. General Atlantic, Leonard Green, Apollo, GIC and Sequoia are also backers.
  • Its private-equity backers will send their portfolio companies to Ode as potential customers, though Ode also sells outside that pool; Fortune describes a built-in client pipeline across hundreds of portfolio companies. Ode's sales postings say executive relationships are sourced through the consortium and Anthropic.
  • Ode works in pods of two to five engineers and a PM, calls itself 'more Palantir than McKinsey' and says over half its team are former founders. CEO Chris Taylor says engagements often target the client CEO's top one or two priorities.
  • Ode is 'Claude-first': it uses Anthropic's technology wherever possible and rival AI products if needed. Fractional AI ended an 11-month partnership with OpenAI when it was acquired, and its case studies list OpenAI models alongside Claude and Gemini.
  • Since the July launch Ode has announced work with Baker Tilly, LogicGate, Citrin Cooperman, PointClickCare and Circana, and in August it acquired Casper Studios. It says its financial-services clients include Fortune 100 banks and publicly traded asset managers.

What they do

Embedded engineering teams

Ode, an applied AI services firm, embeds forward-deployed engineering teams inside enterprise clients. An engagement starts with a small assessment team of Ode engineers working alongside the client's domain experts (clinicians, operations, finance) to map where Claude delivers business value, then moves to custom full-stack development, production deployment and ongoing embedded work.

Where clients come from

Ode's private-equity backers, including Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, Goldman Sachs, Apollo and General Atlantic, will send their portfolio companies to it as potential customers, though Ode does not limit sales to those companies. Its sales postings say executive relationships are sourced through the consortium and Anthropic. CEO Chris Taylor says much of its work is the client CEO's top one or two priority. Ode does not sell a platform or SaaS product.

Industries

As of October 2026, Ode's commercial team is hiring AI Transformation principals for financial services, healthcare and life sciences, and cyber. The Raleigh-Durham health team, launched in January 2026 as Fractional AI Health, started with back-office, non-clinical work such as call-center optimization and triage workflows; Ode says its health clients include payers, providers, life sciences, medtech and health-tech firms. Per Ode, its team's experience also covers retail, manufacturing, software and other industries.

IP ownership

Under Fractional AI, clients retained ownership of the intellectual property built for them.

Claude-first

Ode implements Anthropic's technology wherever possible, including Claude Code and Claude Tag in Slack, and uses rival AI products if needed. Its careers page cites a 'direct line to the frontier' through Anthropic. Fractional AI's case studies list OpenAI models (GPT-4.1, GPT-4o, GPT-4o-mini) alongside Claude 3.5 and 3.7 and Gemini 2.0.

Small teams

Ode calls itself 'more Palantir than McKinsey' and works in pods of two to five engineers and a PM embedded with the client. A Blackstone executive described the team to TechCrunch as 'special forces' rather than an army of forward-deployed engineers. Ode's engineers work alongside Anthropic's Applied AI team. On the Casper Studios acquisition, board member Rodney Zemmel, Global Head of the Blackstone Operating Team, said: 'Very few firms can take a company from one hard custom build to AI running throughout the business.'

  • Target customers
  • Mid-sized companies, starting with the portfolio companies of its PE backers, though Ode also sells outside that pool. Anthropic's examples run from community banks to mid-sized manufacturers and regional health systems. Named clients so far are professional-services firms (Baker Tilly, Citrin Cooperman), software and data platforms (LogicGate, PointClickCare, Sphera, Circana) and, per Ode, Fortune 100 banks and publicly traded asset managers.
  • Pricing model
  • No public rate card or engagement minimum. MarketScale expects outcome-based or time-and-materials pricing rather than per-seat licensing.
  • Tech stack
  • Claude-first: Anthropic's models wherever possible (including Claude Code and Claude Tag in Slack), rival AI products if needed. Fractional AI-era case studies list OpenAI, Claude and Gemini models. Their tooling includes LangChain, LangSmith and Pydantic AI for agents; Braintrust and Weave for evaluation; Pinecone for retrieval; and FastAPI, React.js, Streamlit, WebSockets, Recall.ai and AWS ECS for apps and infrastructure.
