OpenAI Deployment Company
- $4B+ committed
- $14B post-money
- Majority OpenAI-owned
- FDEs in the hundreds
- launched May 2026
The OpenAI Deployment Company (DeployCo) embeds forward-deployed engineers (FDEs) in large organizations to build production systems on OpenAI models. OpenAI owns a majority; a TPG-led group of 19 firms committed $4B+ in May 2026, and the Tomoro and Northslope acquisitions gave it hundreds of FDEs.
Their role in FDE
- The play
- Built by acquisition. Tomoro, founded in 2023 in alliance with OpenAI, brought about 150 FDEs and deployment specialists. Northslope, founded by former Palantir FDEs and Palantir's first Vanguard: Elite partner, took the count into the hundreds. They build production systems on OpenAI's models inside large organizations.
- The economics
- 19 firms led by TPG committed $4B+ at a $14B post-money valuation, and Axios reports that its private-equity backers are guaranteed a minimum 17.5% annual return over five years, with profits capped. Customer pricing and revenue are undisclosed.
- The edge
- Its backers are its sales channel: OpenAI says its investment and consulting partners sponsor more than 2,000 businesses. And a track record: Tomoro's support system for Supercell processes 500 million GPT-4o tokens a day and cut the cost of resolving a ticket by 90%.
- The catch
- A leadership gap. No CEO, president or COO has been named, and CTO Arnaud Fournier is the only named officer. Brad Lightcap, who oversaw the private-equity joint venture, said on Aug 11 that he is leaving OpenAI, with no successor named.

Key findings
- Investors put in the $4B+ at a $10B pre-money valuation ($14B post-money), and OpenAI kept majority control. Its private-equity backers are guaranteed a minimum 17.5% annual return over five years, with profits capped, Axios and The Next Web report.
- Its workforce is built on two acquisitions, both now part of DeployCo: Tomoro (London and Edinburgh; founded 2023 in alliance with OpenAI), which brought about 150 FDEs and deployment specialists, and Northslope (Denver; founded by former Palantir FDEs), whose revenue grew 7x in 2025.
- Its investment and consulting partners sponsor more than 2,000 businesses, OpenAI says. Bain & Company, Capgemini and McKinsey & Company are investors, and DeployCo also works alongside OpenAI's Frontier Alliance consultancies: Accenture, BCG, Capgemini and McKinsey.
- No CEO, president or COO has been named; CTO Arnaud Fournier, OpenAI's first FDE, is the only named officer. Brad Lightcap, who oversaw the private-equity joint venture from April 2026, said on Aug 11 that he is leaving OpenAI; no successor has been named.
- DeployCo builds on OpenAI's models and products. OpenAI says engagements start with a diagnostic and a few priority workflows, which FDEs then build into production systems; integration is custom for each client, and no software product has been announced.

What they do
Forward-deployed engineers inside the client
The OpenAI Deployment Company (DeployCo) is a standalone business unit, majority-owned and controlled by OpenAI, that embeds forward-deployed engineers (FDEs) in client organizations. OpenAI says the FDEs work with business leaders, operators and frontline teams to find where AI can have the most impact, redesign workflows around it and build production systems.
How an engagement runs
OpenAI says a typical engagement starts with a focused diagnostic of where AI can create the most value, followed by a small number of priority workflows chosen with the customer's leadership and operating teams. FDEs then work inside the organization to design, build, test and deploy production systems, connecting OpenAI models to the customer's data, tools, controls and business processes. OpenAI says the systems are designed to improve as new models, tools and deployment patterns come online.
Built on OpenAI models
DeployCo builds solutions on OpenAI's models and products, and OpenAI says its FDEs build for where OpenAI's frontier capabilities are headed. Tomoro's support system for Supercell processes 500 million daily tokens on GPT-4o and 200 million on GPT-4o-mini across five games, and cut the cost of resolving a support ticket by 90%. Integration work is custom per client; no software product has been announced, though DeployCo is hiring a Product Lead for internal products (Oct 2026).
Distribution
OpenAI says DeployCo's investment and consulting partners sponsor more than 2,000 businesses and its consulting and integrator partners work with many thousands more. DeployCo also works alongside OpenAI's Frontier Alliance partners. More than 2 million businesses use OpenAI (Jul 2026).
Verticals
DeployCo says it works with enterprises in financial services, energy, software and industrials, and its open roles add cybersecurity, security-cleared US, life sciences and UAE tracks (Oct 2026). Tomoro's named clients span retail (Tesco), aviation (Virgin Atlantic), gaming and consumer (Supercell, Mattel), financial services (Fidelity International) and consumer goods (Red Bull), plus sports (NBA).
- Target customers
- Large organizations with complex, critical workflows; DeployCo says it works with 'many of the world's largest and most influential companies.' No minimum engagement size or revenue threshold has been disclosed. Its investors' and partners' client networks span industries and company sizes.
- Pricing model
- Customer-facing pricing is not disclosed, and no mid-market or self-serve tier has been announced. Axios reports that DeployCo's investors are guaranteed a minimum 17.5% return with profits capped.
- Tech stack
- OpenAI's models and products (DeployCo's July 2026 announcement cites GPT-5.6). Integration is custom-built per client, connecting OpenAI models to customer data, tools and controls; no software product has been announced. Tomoro's Supercell deployment processes 500 million daily tokens on GPT-4o.

Team & org structure
The workforce combines the Tomoro team (London, Edinburgh, Singapore and Australia), the Northslope team (Denver, New York and London) and direct hires. Most former Tomoro AI Engineers took Forward Deployed Engineer or Member of Forward Deployed Engineering Staff titles in July 2026, and delivery leads now carry Member of Deployment Staff titles. Tomoro's seven co-founders hold deployments, go-to-market, engineering and research, delivery and operations roles.
Both acquired firms now operate inside DeployCo. Tomoro, about 150 people at the deal, announced on Jul 1, 2026 that it is now officially DeployCo, and tomoro.ai redirects to deploy.co; Northslope's founder said in Sep 2026 that it has officially become part of DeployCo. Direct hires and a small group of OpenAI's internal FDEs on temporary loan make up the rest, and DeployCo says it has hundreds of FDEs.
