Positive ExperienceNo Offer

Code challenge. Not difficult. Although the later specs were probably O(n) related, definitely make sure you have a solution down, even if it's not the optimal time complexity. Tried for an optimized solution and ended up running out of time. The person overseeing the process was nice and cordial, even allowing for an extension to take the challenge due to scheduling conflicts.

Be ready to be on your own

Forward Deployed Software Engineer • Former Employee

New York, New York, United States

April 6, 2018

Pros: Salary is great, benefits are amazing, and they pretty much pay for everything.

Cons: The counterpart to having everything paid for you is that Palantir acts as if they own you and expect you to be working 24/7. Also, very little direction is given, and you're expected to figure things out by yourself from the get-go. And god forbid you ask for help, as you will be seen as weak and inefficient. It's a soul-crushing place that does not see workers as humans but merely as code monkeys.

A great company to grow and learn

Forward Deployed Software Engineer • Current Employee

November 3, 2020

Pros: People are very smart. There is room to grow. It's not uncommon to see people who have been in the company for 1-2 years becoming Leads. Huge responsibilities from day 1. "Choose your own adventure" -> You can create your own growth path in the company if you see the need for it. For example, if you work on X product/customer but you see that there is a need to develop another product, you can start working on that without an issue (as long as you don't jeopardize your other role). D&I is big here. You can get as involved as you want with this, and that's awesome! Overall, this is an amazing company. I love it.

Cons: Too much autonomy at times. This is also a pro, but being independent and figuring out things on your own is not for everyone.

High Pressure and Lots of Growth in First Year

February 13, 2022

Pros: - Most rapid growth in a role in 5 years of software experience. - Most results and business-impacting work on my resume. - High stakes and high pressure means I've been required to grow. I now have many stories about difficult situations and how I handled them well and poorly and learned from them. This is great for job interviews, builds the skills of a team lead and manager, and just makes me a more effective worker.

Cons: High-pressure, results-driven satisfying client demands means intermittent waves of pressure, leading to overtime. (Managers often encourage taking time off after working overtime.)
