Deutsche Bank Report Analysis: Palantir Guides Q3 Revenue Growth of 83%, Price Target Raised to $225

Written by: Rita

The market is skeptical about AI software companies' ability to monetize, but Deutsche Bank believes Palantir sits between models and enterprise workflows, and its model-agnostic positioning allows it to continuously extract excess returns from token flows. The company's Q3 revenue guidance midpoint is $2.162 billion, up 83% year over year. Commercial revenue growth is expected at 105%, and government revenue growth at 65%. The price target has been raised from $200 to $225, with a Buy rating maintained.

Tokens are the basic units by which large language models process text; growth in token spending means enterprises are calling models more often and at greater scale. After enterprises put agent applications into production, model calls, data interactions, and governance needs rise in tandem. Palantir's Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP) and Ontology platform sit precisely between models and customers' production workflows, managing how model calls interact with proprietary data and take action. Deutsche Bank believes the more agent applications there are, the higher Palantir's platform's strategic value and potential consumption.

Commercial momentum and government business provide short-term support; Q3 guidance is conservative, so the probability of a beat is high. Valuation still has room to rise, with risks concentrated in competition, macro conditions, government spending, and execution.

Palantir's Position in the AI Control Layer

Unlike AI applications that depend on a single model, Palantir lets customers retain control over data, business logic, permissions, and workflows, while keeping the flexibility to swap underlying models. Ontology serves as a common control layer connecting these elements, allowing customers to use multiple models without handing over proprietary data, prompts, feedback, and institutional knowledge.

Deutsche Bank attended Palantir's second Sovereign Bootcamp in New York, where customer demos and management discussions reinforced one judgment: enterprises increasingly want to be model-agnostic and retain control over the proprietary data and workflows that constitute their Alpha. Deutsche Bank notes that leading model vendors have recently launched zero-data-retention and private secure processing features, indicating rising customer demand for data control—consistent with the sovereignty narrative Palantir emphasizes.

AIP Evolve is a key product for implementing this strategy. It evaluates AI workflows across four dimensions—quality, cost, latency, and control—testing frontier models, open-source models, and proprietary models on customer-specific benchmarks, then identifies opportunities: rerouting or optimizing prompts, fine-tuning models, or replacing unnecessary model calls with deterministic code. Customers thus gain greater model liquidity, adopting the best models without rebuilding surrounding workflows. AutoTune uses governed feedback to fine-tune models in customer environments. Deutsche Bank believes that multi-model support, eval-driven routing, controlled fine-tuning, and the NVIDIA partnership position Palantir favorably as enterprises lower inference costs, reduce vendor dependence, and retain ownership of AI-generated intelligence.

Commercial Revenue Growth Reaches 105%

Commercial revenue is expected at $1.122 billion in Q3, up 105% year over year, with sequential growth slowing 5 percentage points from Q2 against a comparison base 26 percentage points higher. In Q2, U.S. commercial revenue grew 149% year over year and 28% sequentially; U.S. commercial total contract value (TCV) was $2.132 billion, and remaining deal value (RDV) grew 124% year over year. Deutsche Bank believes these figures show commercial opportunities broadening across geographies, industries, and distribution channels.

Partners are expanding implementation capacity. Palantir expanded its partnership with PwC around enterprise AI, M&A transformation, and ERP modernization. Palantir deepened its relationship with Fujitsu, which became a global Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) partner and helped one customer integrate more than 3,000 suppliers and 18 factories, saving over $10 million in costs within a year. Deutsche Bank believes the PwC and Fujitsu announcements are especially important, as partners can expand implementation capacity and alleviate Forward Deployed Engineer capacity constraints when demand scales up.

AIPCon 11 showcased deployments in aviation, insurance, healthcare, manufacturing, media, customer intelligence, and supply chain. Deutsche Bank believes commercial traction is broadening, and partner expansion and growing deployment cases support the sustainability of commercial revenue.

Government Business Accelerates Penetration

Pentagon officials attributed part of the growth in users of the Maven Smart System to demand following Operation "Epic Fury." Maven surpassed 100,000 U.S. defense users in September, up from about 50,000 in January—more than doubling. Maven supported targeting decisions involving 13,000 targets within 38 days, and the platform is being rolled out across military commands and the National Guard Bureau.

The Marine Corps expanded Maven enterprise licenses starting October 1, covering authorized personnel on relevant commands and applicable networks. The Army moved TITAN from prototype to production, awarding Palantir a $127 million contract covering production leadership and integration of 8 initial AI targeting systems, with delivery expected in 18 months and more production orders anticipated in 2027. Deutsche Bank believes Maven's rapid user growth and TITAN's move to production show Palantir is embedding deeper into defense decision-making layers; government business remains a durable growth pillar, though contract awards and revenue recognition will fluctuate quarter to quarter.

Conservative Q3 Guidance

Deutsche Bank does not have particularly strong conviction on the magnitude of the Q3 revenue beat, but given the company's consistently conservative guidance, assuming revenue exceeds the guidance midpoint by 3% to 5% is reasonable. A 3% to 5% beat corresponds to revenue of $2.227 billion to $2.270 billion, up 86% to 90% year over year, a slight deceleration from Q2. Deutsche Bank's base case is a 4% beat, corresponding to revenue of $2.248 billion, up 90% year over year and 16% sequentially, above the average Q3 sequential growth of 10% over the past three years.

A revenue acceleration has not been entirely ruled out. A 6% beat corresponds to revenue of $2.292 billion, up 94% year over year with sequential acceleration of 1 percentage point, requiring a smaller dollar beat than in Q2. Deutsche Bank expects commercial revenue to grow 105% year over year and government revenue to grow 65%, roughly in line with consensus. Non-GAAP operating profit is expected to exceed the guidance midpoint of at least $1.294 billion, with a margin near 61%, expanding about 10 percentage points year over year—a historical record. Gross margin is expected at 86.5%, up 270 basis points year over year and down 20 basis points sequentially. Non-GAAP operating expenses are expected at $576 million, up 48% year over year, in line with the guidance midpoint.

Price Target Raised to $225

Deutsche Bank uses a discounted cash flow (DCF) valuation, with a weighted average cost of capital of 9.75%, a long-term risk-free rate of 4%, an equity risk premium of 5.75%, and a perpetual growth rate of 3.5%, based on GDP growth. The price target has been raised from $200 to $225; the current share price is $196.75, so the target implies about 14% upside. Deutsche Bank maintains a Buy rating.

Risks include intensified competition from frontier AI labs and traditional software providers, macro deterioration, changes in U.S. government spending, and execution risk. Deutsche Bank believes Palantir's model-agnostic positioning and its position in token flows allow it to preserve value amid rapid AI model iteration. High commercial revenue growth, accelerating government penetration, and conservative Q3 guidance provide short-term support. The price target raise reflects Deutsche Bank's confidence in the sustainability of growth.

Palantir's Alpha comes from the control layer; model turnover cannot change that position.
